Let a family member know your itinerary. Someone is sure to know your whereabouts at all times. Check with that person regularly to maintain communication. Hearing from you occasionally and knowing your whereabouts eases their minds.

You need to wear comfortable shoes when you take an airplane; it’s preferable if you are able to slip your feet out of them easily. You are going to have to take them off at the security checks. The number one concern is comfort. Most of the time during air travel is spent sitting, not walking, so you don’t need a lot of foot support. Therefore, it is smart to wear sandals or flip-flops when flying.

When you are packing light for an extended trip, bring along a rain coat with a soft lining. You just can’t tell how the weather will be too far out. Also, the rain coat can double as a windbreaker in cold weather or even a bathrobe while you are in your hotel room.

Airport Parking

If you will be leaving your car at the airport, make sure that you book airport parking in advance. This will save you a lot of money. If you live near the airport, find out if taking a cab is cheaper than airport parking.

Take an early flight. There is less of a chance that it will be delayed. Since airports fill up to capacity, when one plane gets delayed, usually the plane behind it will also be delayed since it must wait until the gates open. Early morning flights are far less likely to be delayed.

When traveling, bring your pillow and small blanket. Whether you travel via rail, air, bus or car, a pillow and blanket can provide you with an additional measure of comfort. Airlines may provide them, but chances are they will run out of their supply. If you bring your own, you know that it’s clean, too.
